('day-we')

Different is beautiful

The name Dewi, pronounced "day-we," is defined as 'goddess' in Indonesian. Having always been addressed all my life as "dewey" by people who see my name in writing for the first time, I've always had to politely correct them. The fact that my name has always been botched became kind of a running joke among my friends. Despite all the years of mispronunciation, I love my name, the heritage and culture from which it hails, and I am proud to wear it.

The pride and true ownership of my name, however, came about in my early 20's as I was riding an elevator at an engineering firm when a business colleague entered and greeted me with a "Hello, the day we met." And it dawned on me right then and there, wow, what a clever way to remember my name! And from that day forward, I put a phrase together and it stuck. This is how I introduce myself to people meeting me for the first time: "Hi, my name is Dewi. Remember the 'day we' met." You can change out the word 'met' with a number of verbs. That, combined with my love for wanderlust and adventure, was how THE DAY WE TRAVEL was born.

After years of gallivanting the world running trips for various tour operators and refining my tour directing skills out in the field, I have decided it was time to lead tours on my own terms. As a Tour Director, my #1 priority is the people. As the owner of THE DAY WE TRAVEL, my priority is no different. My guests on tour are what keeps the wheels on the bus moving. Their safety, satisfaction, and enjoyment on the road as we take in the sights are of the utmost importance to me. Because I have seen and heard directly from my guests their feedback, and have partaken in various shared experiences with them, I have a deep appreciation and understanding for what works and what needs change to make for a more enjoyable travel experience for all.

After all, change is constant and I always strive for the better. I want to avoid long bus rides and spend more quality time in the destinations we visit. I take joy in finding places off-the-beaten path that enable you to experience local culture or nature. And I seek to create moments that leave you, the traveler, inspired to learn more. To inquire. To Explore. To Discover. If this sounds like the experience you desire as well, I invite you to come along with me and let this be the ‘day we’ travel together.
