DAY-TO-DAY ITINERARY
DAY 1 - Arrive Austin, TX - Hotel Check-in - Welcome Dinner
Today, board your flight to Austin, TX to begin your adventure in the second largest American state’s capital city. Upon arrival, meet your Travel Host and transfer to your hotel in Downtown Austin, just a few blocks away from the Colorado River. That’s right — the Colorado River flows through the heart of Austin before it travels southeast and empties into the Gulf of Mexico. Tonight, enjoy a Welcome Dinner at a local restaurant with your travel companions. Meal: (D) Overnight: Hyatt Place Austin Downtown - Austin, TX or similar
DAY 2 - Explore Austin highlights: Texas State Capitol - Ladybird Wildflower Center - Afternoon at leisure - Optional walk to Congress Ave. Bridge for bat-watching
This morning after breakfast, head to the Texas State Capitol for a brief guided tour. The sunset red Texas granite structure is the largest capitol building in the country, standing 14 feet taller than the U.S. Capitol building in D.C. You’ll have time to explore the grounds on your own, or if you wish, you can also do a self-guided tour. Later this morning, head to Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, a botanical garden that features more than 900 species of native Texas plants. This will be the first of many spots this week where you will be delighted by the sight of bluebonnets, the Texas state flower, which blooms here only during the spring season. Enjoy various gardens, meadows, and trails at your own pace. Return to Downtown Austin for a scatter lunch along Congress Ave. The balance of the day is yours. There will be an optional meet-up this evening for those that would like to walk together to Congress Ave. Bridge for bat-watching. It hosts the largest urban bat colony in the world, an estimated 1.5 million bats. It’s a maternity colony, and female Mexican free-tailed bats raise an estimated 750,000 pups each year at the bridge, and people from all over the world flock to the bridge to witness such a sight. Meal: (B) Overnight: Hyatt Place Austin Downtown - Austin, TX or similar
DAY 3 - LBJ Ranch - Marble Falls - Longhorn Cavern State Park
This morning, head west to Johnson City, one of the many small towns in Texas Hill Country and known as the hometown of President Lyndon B. Johnson. Visit Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park, tour his first school as well as his Boyhood Home where he lived from the age of 5 until he graduated high school. The home was built in the 1880s by Samuel Ealy Johnson Sr., the president's grandfather, and is furnished in the 1920s period, depicting what rural Texas life was like almost a century ago. See the family gravesite. Unfortunately his “Texas White House” is currently under renovation until late 2025. Then stop for a snack at a three-generation, family-owned shop where peach farmers have been bringing their finest peaches since 1948. Later this afternoon, become enchanted by fields of bluebonnets enroute to a Longhorn Cavern State Park where you enter a natural limestone cave, which was used over the years by Native Americans and outlaws as well as performing musicians. Enjoy a private guided tour here. Return to Austin late afternoon. Meal: (B) Overnight: Hyatt Place Austin Downtown - Austin, TX or similar
DAY 4 - A Day in Fredericksburg: WWII Museum - Downtown Lunch & shopping - Das Peach Haus - Winery Tour & Tastings
Delve deeper into the heart of Texas Hill Country with a visit to the charming town of Fredericksburg. Settled in 1846 by German immigrants who named their “Texas Eden” in honor of Frederick, King of Prussia, this vibrant town today is home to Texas Wine Country, German restaurants, boutique shops, and art galleries. We begin our visit, however, with the boyhood home of Fleet Admiral Chester W. Nimitz, who served as commander in chief, United States Pacific Fleet (CinCPAC), during WWII. This house has since become the National Museum of the Pacific War and is dedicated exclusively to the Pacific Theater battles of WWII. It is one of the highlights to your visit in Fredericksburg that you do not want to miss! After lunch and some free time to browse the eclectic shops along the historic Main Street, reconvene for a stop at a local farmstead that began as a small peach orchard planted by a German immigrant in 1928. Today, it specializes in 150+ sauces, jams, jellies, & other food products all made locally. Have room for dessert? Enjoy their peach cobbler a la mode and other baked goods, then wash it all down with a peach cider! Later this afternoon, get to know how Fredericksburg became the third largest certified Viticultural Area in the country by touring a local winery and sampling a wine flight. Meal: (B) Overnight: Hyatt Place Austin Downtown - Austin, TX or similar
DAY 5 - A Day in Waco: Waco National Monument - Dr Pepper Museum - Magnolia Market
Let’s hit the road to Waco! We will begin with a visit to Waco National Monument, a paleontological site and museum that focuses on the largest known concentration of mammoths dying from a (possibly) recurring event, which is believed to have been a flash flood. The 14-ft-tall, 20,000 lb. mammoths did not all perish at the same time but rather during three separate events in the same area, which is fascinating. This national monument is one of the newest monuments to be added to the National Park Service. Follow this visit with a tour of the Dr Pepper Museum! Why? Because the famous “pepper soda” was founded in Waco, TX by a pharmacist in the 1880s, and made its first commercial debut in 1885. Learn its history and the theories behind how it got its name, tour the facility where it was first produced, and have yourself a personal glass bottle of the famed beverage. Have lunch and enjoy retail therapy at famed Magnolia Market at the Silos, owned by Chip and Joanna Gaines, TV personalities best known for HGTV’s Fixer Upper TV series, in Downtown Waco. Return to Austin for the rest of the day at leisure. Meal: (B) Overnight: Hyatt Place Austin Downtown - Austin, TX or similar
DAY 6 - A Day in San Antonio: The Alamo - San Fernando Cathedral - Lunch at The Pearl - RiverWalk Cruise - Farewell Dinner
Today we round out our tour of Texas with a day spent in the second most populous city in the state: San Antonio! We kick off the morning with a visit to The Alamo. Take part in a private guided tour by a History Interpreter, explore the exhibits, then visit San Fernando Cathedral, the oldest Catholic church in Texas that dates back to the 1700s. Enjoy some lunch and shopping at The Pearl, a former 1894 brewery turned mixed use retail & restaurant district. Then of course, no San Antonio visit would be complete without being on the RiverWalk. It’s beautiful to take in the 15-mile long RiverWalk on foot, but why not experience it from a boat? Take in the sights and sounds along with fun tidbits from a local guide. Return to Austin this afternoon for some rest, then reconvene for a Farewell Dinner at a local restaurant with your fellow travel companions. Meal: (B, D) Overnight: Hyatt Place Austin Downtown - Austin, TX or similar
