Welcome to the easternmost state in the U.S. With nearly 3,500 miles of coastline, over 3,000 off-shore islands, and 6,000+ lakes and ponds, there’s much to see and do in the Pine Tree State. But rather than travel to the greater Portland and Casco Bay area, this short but sweet 7-day, 6-night trip visits one specific region: the magnificent Mid-Coast.

Think lighthouses, historic ship-building towns, picturesque seaside communities, rugged coastlines, fresh seafood right off the boat … And the best part? You get to unpack once as we call Rockland, Maine our coastal ‘home away from home’ from which we make day trips to places such as Camden, Lincolnville, Bath, Boothbay, Damariscotta, and of course, Bar Harbor, the gateway to famous Acadia National Park. What other tour brochure can you find one hotel stay in one area with less time on wheels and more time spent at the destinations? It’s what makes this tour uniquely memorable. Say YES to a serene getaway along the marvelous Mid-Coast!

DAY 1 - Arrive Bangor, Maine - Welcome Dinner

Today board your flight to Bangor to begin your exploration of the charming Mid-Coast of Maine. Upon arrival, meet your Travel Host, see the famous novelist Stephen King’s home and the world’s tallest Paul Bunyan statue. Then transfer to your charming B&B in Camden, nicknamed “Jewel of the Maine Coast” along Penobscot Bay. Camden will be your homebase for the next 6 nights. Tonight, enjoy a Welcome Dinner at a local restaurant with your travel companions. Meal: (D)

DAY 2 - Farnsworth Art Museum - Downtown Rockland - Cellardoor Winery

This morning after breakfast, take a short ride to Rockland, a former ship-building town that today is known as the “Lobster Capital of America.” Partake in a private docent-led tour of a museum that celebrates Maine’s role in American art. It houses one of the nation's largest collections of the paintings of the Wyeth family: N.C. Wyeth, Andrew Wyeth, and Jamie Wyeth. If art is not your thing, feel free to enjoy a visit down the street to Maine Lighthouse Museum, a gallery dedicated to the preservation of America’s lighthouse history. Then, enjoy some good ol’ New England seafood for lunch at a number of restaurants in downtown Rockland. Following lunch, just a few miles inland, partake in either a glass or a flight of Maine-made wines at a local vineyard tucked away on a hillside. Meal (B)

DAY 3 - Penobscot Narrows Bridge/Fort Knox - Camden Lobstering Cruise

This morning, head up the coast and visit the west bank of the Penobscot River known as Penobscot Narrows, home to the first bridge observation tower in the U.S. and the tallest public bridge observatory in the world. Enjoy views of Penobscot River, Penobscot Bay, and the Maine countryside. Located on-site is also Fort Knox, one of the best-preserved military fortifications on the New England seacoast. Return to Camden for a scatter lunch in town. Then reconvene this afternoon to set sail from Camden Harbor aboard Periwinkle. Enjoy views of lighthouses, wildlife, and a lobster fishing demonstration with a Mainer as your boat captain at the helm. You’ll then have the rest of the day at leisure. Meal (B)

DAY 4 - Maine Maritime Museum - Glidden Point Oyster House - Pemaquid Point Lighthouse

Travel to Bath, known as “City of Ships” for its 200-year history of shipbuilding along the banks of the Kennebec River. Learn all about its maritime culture and stroll through the country’s only surviving shipyard to see where large wooden sailing vessels were once built. Many of the original buildings in the museum’s shipyard are preserved, giving you a glimpse into the daily lives of the Percy & Small shipbuilders. The highlight of the yard is the full-size sculpture of the schooner Wyoming, the largest wooden sailing vessel ever built in North America. This afternoon, experience a guided tour at one of the many oyster farms along the Damariscotta River, known as the oyster capital of New England, where 80% of Maine oysters are farmed here. Later today, enjoy a scenic ride to Pemaquid Neck, home to the historic Pemaquid Point Lighthouse. The views here are stunning! Meal (B)

DAY 5 - Coast Maine Botanical Gardens - Boothbay Harbor Footbridge - Group lunch TBA

This morning, we drive a little further south to the charming town of Boothbay, home to New England’s largest botanical garden at over 300 acres with many native plants of Maine. A special group lunch at a place TBA will be included today. Meal (B, L)

DAY 6 - Bar Harbor - Acadia National Park - Farewell Dinner

Today, get an early start and travel “DownEast” where many years ago, “DownEast” described the direction sailing ships traveled to get here from New York and Boston. Visit its most beloved, most quintessential Maine harbor town of Bar Harbor to indulge on some of the freshest seafood you’ll ever have, browse the local shops along Main St., and/or take in the ocean views along the Shore Path. Then hop aboard a trolley for a narrated tour of Acadia, one of America’s favorite national parks and take in the beauty of its ponds, sandy beaches, rugged outcroppings, and a panoramic vista from atop Mt Desert’s highest point: Cadillac Mountain.
