Three states: Washington, Oregon, and California: Come experience the lively energy of Seattle and all its iconic sights (Space Needle, Chihuly Glass Garden, & Pike Place Market) before heading south to one of the nation’s underrated states: Oregon. The lush and green state is undeniably breathtaking.

Explore wine country in the Willamette Valley, and sit down to sample some of the best Pinot Noirs in the world. Visit Crater Lake NP, Oregon’s ONLY National Park, home to the deepest lake in the U.S. Then continue south along the Oregon coast whose beauty rivals that of the CA coast and ride on a buggy jeep beside 500-ft. tall sand dunes. Then, walk among the tallest living trees on earth as we explore the Redwoods of Northern California.

DEPOSIT POLICY: A $200.00 per person deposit is required to secure a reservation for your tour, which is not considered firm until the deposit is received. The deposit, however, is fully refundable if you cancel within 72 hours of booking the tour. All cancellations will only be accepted in writing. Email your cancellation to dewi@thedaywetravel.com including your reservation number, full name, and date of travel. After 72 hours, the deposit becomes non-refundable and standard cancellation fees apply. See cancellation fee schedule below.

DAY-TO-DAY ITINERARY

DAY 1 – Arrive Seattle-Welcome Dinner

Today board your flight to Seattle to begin your jaunt through the Pacific Northwest. Upon arrival, meet your Tour Director and transfer to your hotel for your two-night stay in Downtown. Tonight enjoy a Welcome Dinner at a local restaurant with your travel companions.

DAY 2 – Pike Place Market - Seattle Locks Cruise - Chihuly Glass & Garden - Space Needle

This morning, board the coach for a day of sightseeing in the Emerald City and start with a private guided culinary walking tour through the famous Pike Place Market, the oldest continuously operating market in the U.S. Then come aboard a relaxing, narrated cruise through the Chittenden (Ballard) Locks as you transition from salt to freshwater and enjoy up-close views of large fishing vessels, seaplanes, floating home communities, and the Seattle skyline. Later visit notable glass artist/sculptor, Dale Chihuly’s Garden & Glasshouse and admire his comprehensive blown glass collection. Then ascend the iconic Space Needle for 360-degree views of the city! The rest of the evening will be yours to enjoy at leisure.

DAY 3 – Mount Rainier National Park-Portland, OR

Today we begin our journey south to Mount Rainier National Park, whose namesake at over 14,000 ft. is the highest point in the Cascade Range. Flanked by glaciers and surrounded by valleys, waterfalls, lakes, subalpine meadows, and old-growth forest, this area of land is a sight to behold. Then continue to Oregon’s largest city, Portland, known as “the City of Roses.” Stop at Peninsula Park, the city’s first public rose garden, to take in the wide variety of flowers, before transferring to your hotel for a two-night stay.

DAY 4 - – Multnomah Falls-Food Carts-Optional Brewery Tasting Room

Nature, local food, and beer is the theme of today’s adventure as we travel through the Columbia River Gorge and visit Oregon’s tallest waterfall, known as Multnomah Falls, this morning. Take in the panoramic beauty of the Columbia River as seen from a basalt promontory 733 ft. above the river. Then return to the city for lunch ‘around the world’ at one of the 675 food cart pods that serve tacos, curries, crepes, kebabs,  and more. Learn how food cart pods came to be a huge part of Portland’s culture. This afternoon, if you’re up for a cool pint, visit one of the many microbreweries in town as Portland has arguably become the ‘Craft Beer Capital of the World.’

DAY 5 – Evergreen Aviation Museum-Willamette Valley-Wine Country/Wine Tasting-Newport, OR

Today we bid farewell to Portland as we travel southwest through the Willamette Valley to McMinnville, OR, home to the Evergreen Aviation Museum. You will see vintage aircraft on display as well as Howard Hughes’ famed Spruce Goose flying boat. We continue our journey through “Oregon Wine Country” as we pass by both large commercial and small family farms as well as thousands of acres of vineyards. The Willamette Valley is known to have some of the best Pinot Noir and high-quality Pinot Gris in the world. We will visit a local winery to enjoy wine-tasting in a serene setting. Later this afternoon, we travel to the coast  to see Oregon’s tallest lighthouse at Yaquina Head Light, before settling into our hotel in Newport for the night.

DAY 6 – Oregon Dunes National Rec Area-Crater Lake National Park-Medford, OR

This morning we head down the coast to experience a buggy tour on the largest expanse of coastal sand dunes in the nation. Ride alongside the Pacific Ocean and see dunes that reach 500 ft. above sea level. Later this afternoon, visit Oregon’s only national park: Crater Lake, a remnant of a destroyed volcano that collapsed onto itself and created a sinkhole. The result is a beautiful lake with a deep blue hue, and is the deepest lake in the United States. Later this evening, check into your hotel in Medford.

DAY 7 – Redwood National & State Parks-Eureka, CA

Today we cross into our third state this trip: CA! Enjoy scenes from the gorgeous California coast as we travel towards the famous Redwoods, the tallest and oldest living trees on earth. We will make several photo stops and include an optional, leisurely walk among these beautiful giants. Tonight, rest easy at your hotel in Eureka, CA.

DAY 8 – Avenue of the Giants-Clear Lake-Sacramento-Farewell Dinner

This morning, depart for the Avenue of the Giants. This scenic drive is a 31-mile portion of Old Highway 101 with 51,000+ acres of redwood groves. Continue along Mendocino County, one of California’s largest and most climatically diverse wine growing regions where you will have lunch on the patio at a local spot before passing by Clear Lake, the oldest lake in North America. This evening, transfer to your hotel in California’s capital and enjoy a Farewell Dinner with your fellow travelers at a chef-driven neighborhood tavern that features creative, seasonal shared plates.

DAY 9 – California Railroad Museum-Fly home!

Our last activity on this trip is a visit to the California Railroad Museum, which features 21 restored locomotives and railroad cars that date back to the late 1800’s. Learn how train travel changed American society and understand the people who worked on the railroads. Enjoy shopping and an optional lunch in Old Town, where virtually all the buildings in the area date from the 19th century. This afternoon, transfer to the airport for your flight home with marvelous memories of the Pacific Northwest. Meal: (B)

What’s NOT Included?

  • Airfare - if you book independently, please arrive in Seattle (SEA) on Day 1 of tour sometime between 2:30 and 3:00 PM PST. Please book your return flight from Sacramento (SMF) on Day 9 of tour in the 1:00 PM PST hour or later. Airfare can be booked through The Day We Travel. There is a service fee of 10% of the cost of airfare. If you prefer to book on your own, *once you have purchased your airfare, please e-mail The Day We Travel your flight information (airline, flight #, & departure time). Should you desire to fly in the day before and/or depart the day after the tour concludes, please let The Day We Travel know this.
