**NOTE** An initial deposit is due at time of booking. Total Cost of Tour (land only) is $1,949.00 based on twin/double occupancy per person. DEPOSIT POLICY: A $200.00 per person deposit is required to secure a reservation for your tour which is not considered firm until the deposit is received. The deposit, however, is fully refundable if you cancel within 72 hours of booking the tour. All cancellations will only be accepted in writing. Email your cancellation to thedaywetravel25@gmail.com including your reservation number, full name, and date of travel. After 72 hours, the deposit becomes non-refundable and standard cancellation fees apply. See cancellation fee schedule below.

DAY-TO-DAY ITINERARY

DAY 1/SUN, MAR 17 – Arrive Los Angeles                                                                                                                                            

Today board your flight bound for the “City of Angels” to begin your sojourn of sunny Southern California! Upon arrival, meet your Tour Director and transfer to Los Angeles to begin a 3-night stay in one of the world’s most populous cities. This afternoon, have a light lunch at Third Street Promenade, an open-air, pedestrian-friendly dining/shopping district near the world famous Santa Monica Pier, then settle into your boutique hotel and partake in a complimentary wine and cheese reception. Tonight enjoy a Welcome Dinner with your travel companions. Meal – (D)

DAY 2/MON, MAR 18 – Los Angeles City Tour                                                                                                                                       

This morning enjoy a Los Angeles City Tour with a twist. You will visit Olvera Street, the birthplace of Los Angeles and home to the oldest building still standing today. Then tour Frank Gehry’s Walt Disney Concert Hall, one of the most contemporary structures in all of Los Angeles. After lunch in Downtown LA (DTLA), enjoy a swan boat ride through lotus flowers in Echo Park Lake with the DTLA skyline as the backdrop. From here, take in the BEST view of LA and the Hollywood sign from Griffith Park Observatory, where the 1955 movie, Rebel Without a Cause, was filmed. Continue to “Tinseltown” to see famous landmarks, like the Dolby Theater, home of the Oscars, and Hollywood Walk of Fame. Then ride down Sunset Strip to Beverly Hills, one of the most affluent and renowned neighborhoods in LA. Enjoy the evening at leisure. Meal – (B)

DAY 3/TUES, MAR 19 – Long Beach-Catalina Island-Los Angeles                                                                                                       

Drive south to the city of Long Beach to board your ferry to the charming island of Santa Catalina, one of the eight Channel  Islands off the coast of LA. Owned by the Wrigley family since 1919, the island was used for the Chicago Cubs’ spring training. Enjoy an open-air tram tour of the city of Avalon with postcard-perfect views of the bay followed by an historic walking tour of the island’s most iconic landmark, the Casino. See what life was like here in the early 1930s, and sashay your way across the elegant, art deco ballroom. In the late afternoon, return by ferry to the mainland, and enjoy a restful evening to yourself. Meal – (B)

DAY 4/WED, MAR 20 – Los Angeles-Queen Mary-Temecula-San Diego                                                                                        

This morning join a guided tour of the legendary Queen Mary, which was once a luxury ocean liner-turned-war ship during the Second World War. See what it would have been like to sail as a first class passenger during her glory days, and hear stories about her ghostly past. Then bid LA County farewell as you venture to Temecula Valley Wine Country to have lunch in quaint, historic Old Town. Follow your visit here with a wine tasting tour at a beautiful, family-run winery. Continue south to “America’s Finest City,” the quintessential SoCal destination, where the beaches are glorious, 70-degree weather is the daily norm, and the culture is laid-back. San Diego is the very embodiment of sunny Southern California; you will not want to leave. Stop by Mount Soledad, the only Veterans Memorial in the U.S. that honors veterans, living and deceased, from the Revolutionary War to the current global "War on Terror." While here, take in the stunning panoramic views of La Jolla, San Diego, and the Pacific Ocean. This evening, check into your hotel, a stunning waterfront property you get to call home for the next three nights. Meal – (B)

DAY 5/THURS, MAR 21 – San Diego City Tour                                                                                                                                   

Start your day touring the Mission Basilica San Diego de Alcalá, the first of the 21 California missions, established in 1769. Follow the history trail to the site where San Diego’s early settlers once lived, known today as Old Town Historic State Park. See the Gaslamp Quarter, formerly known as “New Town,” the heart of San Diego’s nightlife. Enjoy lunch at Seaport Village, a lovely dining/shopping complex along San Diego Bay. Round out the afternoon with a stop at one of the numerous museums and botanical gardens of Balboa Park. Then end the day with a visit to the Cabrillo National Monument to see where the first European explorer set foot on the West Coast. Return to the hotel and enjoy its amenities. Meal – (B)

DAY 6/FRI, MAR 22 – Carlsbad-Torry Pines-La Jolla-San Diego                                                                                                            

This morning, head north to Carlsbad for a guided tour on a tractor-driven wagon ride through The Flower Fields, a magical place where each spring more than 50 acres of coastal farmland turns into a hillside rainbow painted with the vibrant colors of millions of Giant Tecolote Ranunculas, also known as Persian Buttercup. Then have a casual lunch on a bluff overlooking Black’s Beach at the south end of Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve. The ocean views are spectacular, and you may be lucky and see hang-gliders and paragliders from here. After lunch, make your way to the affluent, seaside community of La Jolla for a leisurely stroll along a paved, oceanfront ‘gallery’ to see both seals and sea lions sunbathe at the Cove. This evening come together for food, music, and dancing at tonight’s Farewell Dinner aboard a 3-hour cruise on the bay. Meal – (B, D)

DAY 7/SAT, MAR 23 – San Diego International Airport

EXCLUSIONS

  • Airfare - please book independently and keep in mind, this is an OPEN JAW FLIGHT, not a round-trip ticket. This means you will fly into Los Angeles (LAX) and fly home from San Diego (SAN). Please book a flight to LAX on MARCH 17th and arrive between 11 AM and 1 PM. For your return flight from San Diego (SAN) on MARCH 23rd, please book a flight after 10 AM. We will arrive at the airport two hours BEFORE your flight to allow plenty of time for you to check in and clear security. *Airfare can be booked through The Day We Travel, if you prefer. There is a service fee of 10% of the cost of airfare. **Once you have purchased your airfare, please e-mail me your flight information (airline, flight #, and departure time).
