DEPOSIT POLICY: A $200.00 per person deposit is required to secure a reservation for your tour, which is not considered firm until the deposit is received. The deposit, however, is fully refundable if you cancel within 72 hours of booking the tour. All cancellations will only be accepted in writing. Email your cancellation to dewi@thedaywetravel.com including your reservation number, full name, and date of travel. DAY-TO-DAY ITINERARY

DAY 1 - Arrive Boston

Today board your flight to Boston to begin your exploration of the enchanting Northeast. Upon arrival, meet your Tour Director and transfer to your hotel to begin a 2-night stay in one of the nation’s oldest cities. Tonight enjoy a Welcome Dinner at a local restaurant with your travel companions. Meal: (D)

Overnight: Boston, MA - Doubletree by Hilton Boston Bayside or similar

DAY 2 - Boston City Tour-Salem-The House of the Seven Gables-Boston, MA

This morning after breakfast, board the coach for a Boston City Tour to see the Old State House, Faneuil Hall, and Boston Common. Walk part of the Freedom Trail and see The Paul Revere House and the Old North Church. Then titillate your taste buds with New England favorites such as Boston clam ‘chowda’ and lobster rolls during lunch on your own at the historic Quincy Market, a food and shopper’s paradise. After lunch, return to the coach to head north to the historic city of Salem, infamous for the Salem Witch Trials of 1692. See the burial grounds of those wrongly accused, walk the cobblestone streets, and visit The House of the Seven Gables, one of the oldest surviving 17th century wooden mansions in New England, made famous by the Nathaniel Hawthorne story of the same name. Return to Boston in the evening. Meal: (B)

DAY 3 - Boston-Old Sturbridge-Bridge of Flowers-Welcome to VT!

After breakfast, travel west to Old Sturbridge Village in the town of Sturbridge, MA and experience what life was like in rural New England during the 1790s through 1830s. The 200-acre village is New England’s largest living museum and home to 59 antique buildings, three water-powered mills, and a working farm. Then continue northwest to the quaint, little town of Shelburne Falls and enjoy a stroll across a former trolley bridge that’s covered in flowers. This evening, check into your hotel in Springfield, VT before gathering for a group dinner at a 19th century postmaster’s home-turned-restaurant across the Connecticut River. Meal: (B, D)

DAY 4 - Hildene-Quechee Gorge-Waterbury-Stowe, VT

This morning, we tour Hildene, the former summer home of Robert Todd Lincoln and his wife Mary Harlan Lincoln. Robert was President Lincoln’s eldest of four sons and the only one to survive into adulthood. He built the 14-room Georgian Revival mansion in 1905 during his tenure as President of the Pullman Palace Car Company. Enjoy an included group lunch at the estate. This afternoon, travel to Quechee Gorge, aka “Vermont’s Little Grand Canyon,” and the deepest gorge in the Green Mountain State. Then visit a cider mill to watch how apple cider is made the old fashioned way before having a taste. Be sure to also sample the cider donuts made fresh daily. Save room for more sweets as we head to Ben & Jerry’s, America’s beloved ice cream, to tour its factory and savor the ‘flavor of the day’! Meal: (B, L)

DAY 5 - Maple Sugar House-Lake Winniepesaukee-Wolfeboro-Wright Museum-Welcome to North Conway, NH!

After leaving the hotel this morning, visit an 8-generation, family-owned maple sugarhouse. Learn how real maple syrup is made with sap buckets and wood fires, sample the different grades of syrup, and indulge on maple creemees, shakes & sundaes. Who cares if it’s still 9 AM?! Then head southeast to board the historic M/S Mount Washington and enjoy a scenic cruise on Lake Winniepesaukee, New Hampshire’s largest lake at the foothills of the White Mountains. Disembark in Wolfeboro, known as the “Oldest Summer Resort in America.” Enjoy a late lunch along Main St. before visiting the Wright Museum of WWII, which not only showcases the battlefields, but life on the home-front. Then head to North Conway for the evening. Meal: (B)

DAY 6 -The Kancamagus Hwy-The Basin-The Old Man of the Mountain-The Cog-Welcome to Portland, ME!

This morning, we ride along Route 112, aka the renown Kancamagus Highway. The 34-mile scenic byway is New England’s prettiest drive as it cuts an east-west channel through New Hampshire’s 800,000-acre White Mountain National Forest. Take in the foliage colors of crimson red, orange, and yellow and stop for a stroll in the woods alongside rivers, pools, and waterfalls. Continue north to Franconia Notch State Park for a visit to see what is left of The Old Man of the Mountain, New Hampshire’s state symbol, since its collapse in May 2003. This afternoon, board the world famous Mount Washington Cog Railway, the nation’s first mountain-climbing train, which has carried passengers to the 6,288-foot summit of Mount Washington (the Northeast’s highest peak) since 1869. Later this afternoon, transfer to Portland, ME for a two-night stay along the waterfront. Meal: (B)

DAY 7 - Portland Head Lighthouse-Freeport-L.L. Bean-Portland, ME

After breakfast, take a ride to Cape Elizabeth and visit Portland Head Light, Maine’s oldest lighthouse, and America’s most photographed. Learn all about it in the maritime museum, which was formerly the lighthouse keepers’ house. Take a stroll through Fort Williams Park, see Battery Blair, one of the many artillery batteries at the former WWII fort, and enjoy the beautiful sea views. This afternoon, we head north to Freeport, home to L.L. Bean’s Flagship store. The popular retail company’s first and largest storefront has sat in its current location for over a century. Enjoy lunch in downtown Freeport. Return to Portland to rest or shop the Old Port district. This evening, come together for a Lobster Farewell Dinner at a local restaurant. Meal: (B, D)

DAY 8 - Portland-Kennebunkport-Portsmouth, NH-Boston Logan International

This morning, en route to the airport, we will head to the charming coastal town of Kennebunkport to see the Bush Compound on Walker’s Point. We will continue south to Portsmouth, NH, one of America’s oldest cities and vibrant, European-inspired seaport where we will break for lunch. Then transfer to Boston International Airport for your flight home with wonderful memories of your visit to New England. Meal: (B)
